Friend of Unconsumption Michael Doyle pointed out SwineBlog, figuring it would be of interest because many of the entries “show the ingenuity of Sao Paulo residents, who craft local flotsam into smart solutions to solve basic needs.” An example is above:
Folding shopping trolley made from metal offcuts, the back panel shows the stamped out shapes of bottle openers which makes a pleasing connection to the cans of food they often carry. (R. Galeno de Almeida/ R. Oscar Freire)
Pretty cool. Lots more at SwineBlog. (Thanks Michael!)
(And in case, like me, you puzzled over the word “offcuts,” that refers to bits of wood, metal, or other material that’s sort of leftover to a manufacturing process. The word has actually come up here on Unconsumption in the past: examples including these barstools made from wood offcuts, and this bracelet from offcuts. So I don’t know why it hasn’t occurred to me before, but “offcuts” is a very cool word, a material concept that seems important to what this site is all about…)
