Cracking Art Group, an Italian art collective, and Rome-based Galleria Ca’ d’Oro have been spreading environmental consciousness in Miami Beach, Florida, through an installation of 45 pink snails made of recycled plastic collected from landfills. The large-scale snails — some eight feet tall and 11 feet long — were placed in parks and other public spaces. The REgeneration Art Project, which coincided in December with Art Basel, is ”meant to carry a serious message about the way we live and treat the environment.” Similar installations have taken place in Italy and France.
