pass the baton: tokyo vintage shop
Friend of Unconsumption Alex B. passes along this item about a cool retail concept in Japan, dubbed Pass The Baton, designed for people sell off items they don’t want anymore. That sounds like a basic thrift store, but this one has some twists that add a bit more narrative and potential meaning and connection to the secondhand wares:
By means of a bricks-and-mortar flagship in the center of Tokyo and an online web shop, we offer buyers and sellers a forum for exchange. Items for sale are presented not only through images, but also by a brief profile of the seller and a short anecdote about the item.
As a member of PASS THE BATON, people of all backgrounds, from all over the world, can sell as simply as one would at a flea market?but with the added dimension of optioning proceeds to charity.
Here’s the web shop. You can also browse by seller. Click around a little, it’s interesting. (Even though only some of the Japanese is accompanied by English translation.)
Check out pictures of the brick and mortar store here. It looks great!
(Thanks again Alex!)
